The Center for Research and Collaboration in the Indigenous Americas (CRACIA) will be hosting a virtual presentation tomorrow, Thursday, December 10th at 3:00PM EST. Jose Arenas Gomez will be presenting "Food and Feeding as Social Mediation."
Some information about the presentation:
"Next meeting, I will be sharing part of my work with CRACIA. I am very excited, but I need to confess that I am shy. It is a work in progress based mainly on my experience with the I´ku people, Chibchan speaking indigenous of the Sierra Nevada de Santamarta (Colombia). As I will mention in my presentation, I work with person-body, which opened a door I explored somewhat in my dissertation. Now I want to look at the sociological role of eat-feeding more closely.
We have a significant bibliographic corpus about food-eating, but I would like to focus the topic on the Amerindian context. My ethnographic work will be the starting point, but I would like you to broaden the scope up, bringing reflections from Andes (where the topic has been widely explored), Guianas, the Amazon, and other places.
I am attaching one of my recent papers to contextualize my work; nonetheless, I will refer to the main points during my presentation. I am looking forward to seeing you on Thursday."
