Medical Anthropologists from UMD Featured in Anthropology News' Edition on Health and Well-Being

Woods Hall

The most recent issue of Anthropology News features insights on health and well-being from three of UMD’s medical anthropologists.

Dr. Alison Heller’s piece, “The Hidden Harm of Surgery,” explores the statistics underlying surgical success of obstetric fistulas in Niger.

Dr. Thurka Sangaramoorthy and her co-author, Krisjon Olson, discuss in their article, “Advocating for Health Care Access,” the ways in which anthropologists are confronting threats to health care coverage for immigrants and people living with disability in the United States.

Dr. Andrea Lopez's piece, “Resisting Overdose,” details the actions people are taking in response to the opioid epidemic in Washington, DC.
