Stopping Gun Violence: Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs

Dr. Joseph Richardson’s, Associate Professor in African American Studies and Anthropology, research on violence intervention was featured in Huffington Post. The article explores how Dr. Richardson’s Capital Region Violence Intervention Program, based out of Prince George’s Hospital Center, is helping victims of violence by offering an alternative path and disrupting the cycle of violence. The program uses a public health approach by treating violence like a disease and targeting the structural causes of violence and giving survivors the necessary assistance to help them make lifestyle changes.
