Dr. Judith Hanna, an affiliate of the Department of Anthropology, was among three faculty members from University of Maryland who were featured in an article in The Diamondback discussing faculty’s diverse expertise and their published books that reflect their life experiences. The author of the article emphasizes that these published works communicate the faculty’s “wisdom and personal interests" (Levy 2015). In Dr. Hanna’s case, she has published 11 books that explore the relationship between dance and society from an anthropological perspective. Her recent publication, Dancing to Learn: The Brain’s Cognition, Emotion, and Movement draws findings from neuroscience as ‘dance is a very complex phenomena that involves mind, body and emotions’ (Levy 2015).
