Congratulations to Dr. Pavao-Zuckerman and Ph.D student collaborator Elizabeth McCague for being selected to receive a Faculty-Student Research Award (FSRA) to be taken in academic year 2022-2023. The Graduate School FSRA enriches the graduate student experience while assisting faculty in their academic pursuits.

With support from the Faculty-Student Research Award (FSRA), they will use zooarchaeological "big data" to test the hypothesis that in rural 18th-19th century southeastern North America, horse carcasses were disposed of via the meat provisioning of dogs, explaining the infrequent recovery of horse remains in archaeological assemblages.
