Congratulations to Ellen Platts (Doctoral Candidate) on being awarded the Dr. James W. Longest Memorial Award for Social Science Research from the Graduate School. The Longest Award supports doctoral research in the social sciences with potential benefits for small and/or disadvantaged communities. Ellen is currently in the field undertaking research on sustainable development and food justice in Tucson, AZ—a city designated as a "Creative City of Gastronomy" in UNESCO's Creative Cities Network—as the desert city faces the compounding issues of food insecurity and climate change.
