Robert Winthrop, Research Associate, served on the panel that prepared the new report on building coastal resilience through investments in green infrastructure:

"On August 27th the White House released Ecosystem-Service Assessment: Research Needs for Coastal Green Infrastructure, which recommends areas for prioritized federal research to support the integration of green infrastructure (such as salt marshes, reefs, and dunes) into plans and projects for coastal risk reduction and resilience.  The report, produced by the National Science and Technology Council, responds to a recommendation by the Hurricane Sandy Task Force.

While the report is directly concerned with building coastal resilience in the face of storms and sea level rise, it is broadly applicable to infrastructure planning in other environments, including the public lands, particularly to the challenge of determining the optimal mix of gray (constructed) and green infrastructure needed to meet a particular environmental objective.
