Uncovering Hidden Worlds: The Craft of Doing Applied Archaeology w/ Dr. Brighton

Archaeology is a dynamic discipline that allows us to see into worlds otherwise hidden. These worlds offer insights into how people constructed meaning in their daily lives and expressed it through diverse types of material culture. This concept structures the discussion today and is exemplified by Dr. Brighton's applied work on community engagement in the United States and Ireland.

Dr. Stephen Brighton earned his PhD in archaeology at Boston University. He has taught at the University of Maryland since 2005. Brighton's research involves concepts of cultural resilience and alienation within larger structures of injustice, colonialism, and capitalism. His main research focus is on the Irish Diaspora and has directed field schools in the United States and Ireland since 2001.
