  • PhD Candidate David Colón-Cabrera Wins Graduate Student Distinguished Service Award!
David Colón-Carera

Congratulations to PhD Candidate David Colón-Cabrera for winning this year's Graduate Student Distinguished Service Award!

David has served as the Graduate Student Government President for two years, spearheading initiatives in graduate student writing assistance and graduate student parental leave. He is a consistent presence lobbying in Annapolis for graduate student issues and is visible throughout campus and beyond as a member of the USM Student Council, the UMD Senate Campus Affairs Committee, the University Diversity Council, and the Graduate Council, among other groups. Within his own department, he has served on the Graduate Committee, volunteered for Maryland Day activities, and co-founded Anthroplus, a graduate student interdisciplinary conference. In addition to his service on campus, David volunteers in the community, having served as an interpreter for Cuban medical students visiting the area and at the Paint Branch Elementary School during Parent-Teacher Day. David received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico at Rio Piedras and his master’s from the University of Maryland College Park.
