The Society for Applied Anthropology is pleased to announce the results of the Competition for the Erve Chambers Tourism and Heritage Student Paper Prize for 2025. The three awardees are Jie Gao (1 st ), Jonathan Eaton (Honorable Mention), and Fiona K. Steiwer (Honorable Mention). Awardees will receive travel funds to offset the expenses of attending the 85th Annual Meeting of the Society in Portland, OR, March 25-29, 2025.

Fiona Steiwer will present her paper, “Spectres of the Past: The Impact of Dark Tourism on Heritage Narratives in Ireland.”, on Thursday March 27th at 9am in Parlor C. Student Travel Award winners will be announced at the General Business Meeting, Thursday, March 27, 11:15-1:00 p.m., in the Pavillion room of the Hilton Portland Downtown.

The Erve Chambers Tourism and Heritage Student Paper Award was established to honor the legacy of Dr. Erve Chambers and encourage new and innovative avenues of inquiry within the anthropology of tourism and heritage. Dr. Chambers’ scholarly work and professional service has had an indelible impact on the anthropology of tourism and heritage as well as applied anthropology.
